Vieste is a small but beautiful town on the most eastern part on the Gargano peninsula of Italy in the Puglia region. At its core, this town is a fishing village.  However, it also offers a holiday or vacation traveler wonderful sights and beautiful culture and tradition.  One of the unique aspects of this ocean side town is that it has a lot to offer individuals, couples, and families.  Also, the local people welcome tourists and make them feel comfortable and welcome.  This is true of Vieste hotels, restaurants, or historical sights, or activities.

You will not forget the water after you visit Vieste.  The deep rich blue ocean is memorable due to the fact that the water is unbelievably clean.  The Gargano region of Puglia has been the recipient of environmental awards for having “the cleanest sea water in Italy”.  Like the rest of the Puglia area, the beaches are also quite calm and perfect for many activities.  There is enough beach for a nice walk or bike ride.  A Vieste accommodation near the ocean offer activities and a beautiful view of the sunset.

Nighttime is truly special in Vieste Italy. Basically, we are just big fans of Vieste Italy and the surrounding Gargano area of Puglia and we see a lot to promote.  We think people will have a great time in this beautiful town and in wider Gargano.  It has a lot to offer, and we have a lot to say about it.  It is enjoyable to us to promote a place where people can relax, have fun, see great sites, and even learn a little.  Again, we do not profit if you choose to travel to Vieste Italy or any other parts of Gargano or the larger Puglia province.  You can trust that everything here is factual and in the service of being helpful.

How many holiday destinations can you find that have wonderful beaches with soft sand and water that has won awards for purity?  Now add lovely downtown with a lot to do and a great personality, many historical sights, and fun nightlife.  And the people of Vieste are welcoming and enjoy the fact that you have chosen their town as your holiday destination.  They are proud of their town and its history.  They hope that you will come to love it as much as they do.

Vieste Italy Travel

Deciding exactly when to got to Vieste can be complicated, especially if work and school schedules are not major factors.  This beautiful town offers many different activities and attractions that you might enjoy at any time of year.  In fact, frequent travelers to Vieste Italy often purposely choose to go at different times of year in order to vary the food, activities, and nightlife they might enjoy.  This is also good news of course for those who must go during school vacation, or specific times when they can take off from work, since you almost can’t lose as far as when you go.

But let’s say you do have some say, then when should you plan your Vieste vacation?  Let’s start with the factors that may lead to your decision:

What to Do in Vieste Italy

Here are just a few examples of whgat you can do on your Vieste Holiday:

1. Wonderful coves along the coastline are there to explore.  These caves and inlets will take you away from it all and engulf you in their natural beauty.  You will need to go to most by boat, and they can provide hours of exploration and fun.

2. There is a beautiful jetty on one of the main Vieste beaches called “Pizzomunno”.  Going out from the beach at least twenty meters, this jetty is wonderful to explore for anyone interested in nature, sea life, and just natural beauty.  This beach is particularly fun for families with children, and the jetty is one reason why.

3. Vieste has a forest of pine trees near the above mentioned coves which present a perfect place to relax and hike.  This is a great place to take pictures, have a picnic, or just enjoy the beauty of nature.  THis forest of pines in near everything so it provides the chance to enjoy nature in just a quick diversion.

4. Of course one highlight of any trip to Vieste, especially for the nature enthusiast, is the Umbra Forest.  This large and lush forest on the outskirts of Vieste presents such a nice contrast to the ocean side views of the town.  Many people miss visiting the Umbra Forest because they are so busy in the town and on the beaches, but it is really worth the trip.

Price of travel

The cheapest time to travel to Vieste is the two times of year referred to as “Shoulder Season” – roughly the spring and fall.  Because fewer people take trips at these times, especially expensive trips to Europe, airline tickets are cheaper, Vieste itself may be less crowded, and the costs of many things may go down.  These times also offer the most moderate weather – warm enough to go swimming in the ocean almost every day, but not too hot.  If you do not have work or school schedules to keep in mind, the shoulder seasons is likely a great choice.

The Weather in Vieste

As we mentioned above, shoulder season may also be the most comfortable weather wise, given that Vieste is so far south and summers can be very hot.  Winters in Vieste are far from cold, but they do offer fewer really pure beach days than other times of year.  So it really depends on your hopes for your trip to Italy.  Are you a beach person who wants to lie out and enjoy the clean waters, or are you a nature lover who wants to hike the forest?

Summer

Summertime weather in Vieste Italy is usually hot, but not to an uncomfortable degree.  In July and August expect average temperatures around 25-30 degrees celsius (77-86 degrees farenheit, with rain about once per week.  There is not unexpectedly usually a little wind that comes off the ocean, and the humidity can be moderate to high at times.  So a usual summer day’s weather in Vieste Italy is hot, a little humid, with a comfortable breeze.

Fall

Fall brings a cooling but not beyond leaving the days warm.  The Vieste Italy weather in the fall might still leave s few days where you can go swimming.  Average October highs are around 19-23 degrees celsius (66-73 degrees farenheit).  There is always that same cool westerly breeze.  The humidity picks up a bit in the fall as well, and there are almost twice as many days of rain.  Thus an average day’s weather in Vieste Italy in the fall is warm and comfortable.  There is usually a breeze and the possibility of a little refreshing rain.

Winter

Winter brings cool, but not cold on most days.  Daytime average temperatures in January around 10-14 degrees celsius (50-57 degrees farenheit) during the day.  It can be 3-7 degrees celsius at night (37-45 farenheit).  It tends to be foggy in the winter and as with fall there may be rain every third day or so.  Every once in a while there is even a touch of snow.  So the average weather in Vieste in Winter is cold but not overly so, with a little cool rain and a little more breeziness

Spring

Spring: Spring brings comfortable temperatures between 9-17 celsius.  There tends to be a good deal of wind in spring and there can be a lot of precipitation.

Crowds in Vieste

One thing that many travelers to Italy do not realize is that the holiday vacation season in Europe is much more pronounced than it is in the US.  In August and early September many Europeans take holidays at the same time, especially if they are going on beach holidays.  So if you avoid those times your trip to Vieste may be less crowded.  This holiday town does not get too crowded at any time anyway though.

You should ask your travel agent or perhaps even contact a travel expert in Vieste to see what special events are going on at certain times of year.  There are festivals and other events that you may either want to avoid due to the crowds or because the celebration is not interesting to you, or perhaps make sure you are there for if they sound fun and exciting.

Who else will be in Vieste Italy

At certain times of year Vieste and other holiday towns tend to have certain populations of visitors.  If you want to meet people from all over Europe, you should visit Vieste during the late summer.  If you are traveling alone or as a couple, you may want to avoid heavy family times during school vacations.  And on the other hand if you want your kids to have a chance to meet other kids, you may choose to travel to Vieste Italy during school vacations.

So you’ve made the excellent decision to travel to Vieste for your holiday vacation.  You can’t go wrong given all that this wonderful area of Italy has to offer.  That said, we’d like to offer some helpful tips for your holiday vacation in Vieste Italy:

Choose your accommodations in Vieste Italy carefully.

There are many choices from hotels to houses to villas.  Even within the group of hotels there are small family run accommodations as well as larger chains.  The amenities will differ between hotels and villas – our Accommodations page may help you decide.

Vieste is not a large area but you can be near the beach or right in downtown.  You can also be away from it all and still within walking distance of most everything.  Your view from your hotel or villa may also be important – make sure to ask what your particular accommodation will face.

One of the oft overlooked positives about traveling internationally is that your children might meet new friends from different countries and different cultures.  Also, Vieste Italy accommodations that are used to families traveling with children may be more patient and accommodating about noise.

Stay awhile in Vieste

Be adventurous

There are so many terrific places to eat in Vieste Italy and surrounding Gargano that you may be sorry if you decide to skimp.  And since so many restaurants are so good – from the bigger to the smaller to even the holes-in-the-wall, be adventurous about where you eat.  And as far as weight gain?  Don’t worry, the beach is so beautiful that you can take a long enjoyable walk to burn off the calories.  There are also plenty of ocean sports you can partake in.

There are many exciting things to do in Vieste Italy such as parasailing and scuba diving.  You may have to be brave to do these, but they will be incredibly fun.  When parasailing you will be able to check out the beautiful town and surrounding area of Gargano by air.  In addition, scuba diving in the award-winning clear waters cannot be beat.

Meet people in Vieste Italy
